Working at the intersection of complexity, facilitation and health systems.
Process consultant
In the tradition of Edgar Schein’s definition of a process consultant, I partner with teams to enable them to address challenges more effectively and develop innovative, actionable initiatives. This often includes working at the intersection of relationships, decision-making, and organisational dynamics to unlock greater coherence and impact.
Sense-making
I work with healthcare organisations—and others navigating uncertainty—to make sense of complex, shifting realities.
Using a blend of approaches, I help teams to gain insight: seeing patterns, surfacing meaning, and making better decisions in context. This is not about simplifying complexity, but about working with complexity—so that action becomes clearer, more grounded, and more effective.
Complex Informed Facilitation
I design and facilitate processes that enable teams to think, learn, and act in complexity.
My practice draws on approaches such as the Cynefin Framework and Estuarine Mapping, alongside design-led and systems-informed methods. I also integrate principles from Design Thinking, Lean, and related methodologies where appropriate—always adapting to the context rather than applying tools mechanically.
The result is facilitation that creates movement: helping groups navigate ambiguity, unlock new perspectives, and generate practical, context-sensitive ways forward.
Applied research
I undertake applied research that informs real-world decision-making and change.
My work focuses on areas such as sense-making, narrative (including stories and storytelling), and organisational transformation. I use methods that generate insight in real time—supporting adaptive learning rather than retrospective reporting.
I have supervised postgraduate research at Masters and Doctoral level, some of whom have gone on to become successful scholars, whilst others have pursued their careers in the healthcare sector.
